Lawn Diseases   We welcome the opportunity to answer your questions Slime Mold   Symptoms: A surface fungus growth may appear suddenly on leaf blades of turf grass in warm, wet weather. Slime mold is initially slimy but matures to a powdery stage when spores are produced. They vary in color from black to powdery gray, pink, yellow or orange. It may occur in large quantities in rainy weather, enough to be observed even at a distance. Disease Cycle: Slime mold is a fungus that obtains the nutrients from dead organic matter in thatch and soil. It is unable to infect turf or other plants and do not cause any injury beyond that caused by coating the leaf blades. Slime mold is initiated from spores and develops into a slimy film. As it matures, the slime is converted into a mass of powdery spores, which may be airborne to new sites. Management: Fungicides are not recommended for slime mold because it does not cause turf diseases and can usually be controlled by a light application to the turf .
